The Photographer's Den! / L'antre du photographe !

The Photographer's Den!

Shown for the first time on this blog, here is part of my working space! The caveman's den... I must confess that I built it essentially for myself... which is normal as Hélène has a beautiful office on the main floor.

In order to do the kind of work I want to do, space is paramount. After all, there is a lot of expensive equipment, and where would I be without a dedicated sound system? Plus all those books all around the place... so 15x 30 feet is where I work. The can of coke is there to give you an idea of the size of this home-made desk. In the forefront, you can see two Nikon cameras, one Asahi Pentax SLR, an antique Kodak Brownie Junior and a 1937 Kodak Six-20. I currently work with a Canon 5D Mark II (not seen...)

Also some of my lenses... solid, heavy, near unbreakable. In the centre, a huge, 2560x1600 pixels 30 inch Apple graphics display. To the left, the core of it all, the huge, near 50-pound ultra-fast Mac Pro with 12 GB RAM, 1 main ssd drive and three other 1 TB internal hard drives, 8 processors... Big, heavy, beautiful and supremely fast, this is the most compatible computer on earth as it runs either Windows or Mac OS X... or both at the same time, shifting from one to the other with a click of the mouse.

At the far right, you can see part of a 17-inch Epson Pro printer. You do not see the Wacom graphic tablet, the main part of the computer sound system and a lot of other things like hidden big hard drives (redundancy is the name of the game!) and the alarm system protecting all this.

Don't ask me how much money there is in all that, I won't tell you. And what would be the point? I am a poor man but very happily married. Hélène pays for all that, guys! :-)))

  1. What a fabulous den...and a pretty fine lady you have there to help pay for it. A fine artist needs his tools though. So well worth it.

Thousands of books, he wrote, and he's not making this up. Currently, we own probably nearly 2,500 books. That house is not about to be going with the wind and the Big Bad Wolf can huff and puff.

  5. Well, thank you all, Zappha, Jenean, Suzanne and Hélène. This is indeed my den. My lair? Maybe. And if I am to ever create something, it will be here, because anybody can click on a shutter these days, it's so easy...
