Achmed, The Frog And Three Good Inexpensive Wines

Or How To Make A Bad But Rather Funny Photo

Friends from Québec, you should go to the nearest SAQ store while those wines are still available and buy the three of them. Way above average and inexpensive, this is not a frequent combination.

The Château Penin Grande Sélection 2010, a bordeaux supérieur, is rated at 15,5 (around 90 on the Parker scale). This is a very, very good merlot. At 22,80 dollars, no way you can make a mistake with this one.

The Château Bouscassé 2010 is a very easy to drink madiran, a real treat. The Tannat varietal is usually more harsh, but here it is in a proportion of not more than 50 percent, and the result is impressive. It's almost a steal at 20,65 dollars and a 16 rating, or around 91 on Parker scale.

The Côtes Rocheuses Saint-Émilion Grand Cru is truly a hidden gem. This is an 83 percent Merlot Saint-Émilion, the rest being Sauvignons. I give it a personal rating of 16,5 or at least 91+ on the Parker scale. This is one of the best hidden gems of the whole Saint-Émilion AOC. At 28,55 dollars for an excellent Saint-Émilion Grand Cru, moreover a 2010 millésime, you simply must give it a try!

And Now About This Photo…

On the left you've got Achmed The Terrifying Terrorist. On the right, the Frog. For those of you who wouldn't know, a Frog is a French guy either from France or from Québec, pick your choice. In the middle, three French wine bottles for Achmed, to keep him warm during his Very Last Trip. I took from him his iPhone 6 Plus and his Heinz ketchup bottle, he won't need them anymore, the poor guy.

  4. By Jove, James, you wouldn't be mistaken by buying this wine. Pretty sure you'd like it a lot. Dry as you said - but then all three are! - , purple in colour, a tremendous nose, a ever lasting mouth that grows on you… yep, clearly above average.

Nos, about this Saint-Émilion Grand Cru, I tell you it's a hidden gem! you would love it, you and I on a single bottle, it wouldn't last! :-)
