Violent Colours / Couleurs violentes

Violent Colours

This image is the result of some heavy Photoshop work. A few of you will undoubtedly recognise the starting point... or at least part of it.

I am a bit ambivalent myself about this one, so I authorise you to hate it and say so. My personal overall grade would be 6 or 7 out of 10.

Go on, comment and critique, amigos!

Couleurs violentes

Thanks Suzanne. But if you saw the original photo, you would say "beurk"... Photoshop CS4 contains literally millions of lines of code and is sold at a high price by Adobe (because there is no real competitor). Having paid for it, I use it quite a lot!

On the other hand, I have reevaluated this picture and now give to it 8 out of 10.

  4. Personally I like this. The colors are strong, and since I know the spot, the colors "represent" how it felt, more than how it looked.

Alive and jumping, so to speak.

  6. Jean-François, James and Steff: Thanks Jief, you still have this wonderful way with words... :-) And James, you are right to say that the image gives a better feeling of the place than what was really there to see. As I often say, photography and painting get nearer and nearer. And believe me, for this kind of job a computer will never be powerful enough, and the same could be said of DSLRs!

The original shot, BTW, has. this dull look.

Jean-François, James et Steff : Merci. :-) Jief, tu as toujours cette inénarrable écriture...

@France: Phortoshop, the King of photography... it has now blurred the limits between photography and image...

  9. I also like the picture and I think you were too severe with yourself giving it under 8. Sometimes the "WOW!" effect is a result of a major post-processing, like in this case.

Actually, almost all sites reviewing photo cameras admit that in standard mode (no extra-color, no-sharpening, no-contrast) the photography could be very dull. I guess the manufactures just do that to give the artist the possibility to incarnate his/her vision.

  10. Hi Marius,

You are absolutely right. In "standard RAW mode", my pictures indeed need post-processing. But I prefer doing it myself, with my own criteria, to having the camera overdoing it (very often) in jpeg mode in order to give me a more "vivid" picture. Sometimes the camera does a fine job, but in other circumstances... :-)

    Have a nice day!
