Walking To The Restaurant / En marchant jusqu'au restaurant

Walking To The Restaurant

A few days ago, Hélène and I decided to walk through Sainte-Sophie's streets to the restaurant, and have breakfast. I almost always go out with my 30-pound backpack, tripod, camera and all. That morning I only grabbed the Canon 5D Mark II equipped with the 24-105L pro zoom. Nothing like a prime kens, but a good lens nevertheless.

Of course I lived to regret having only lens and no tripod! Oh yes I did. But then things happen as they say.

There were several small lakes along our way, and with those Autumn colours and all, I took some shots. One of those you can see below, along with a 100 % partial enlargement. See why I longed for the Canon 300 mm-L pro prime lens, the Canon 1.4 multiplier and my tripod?

Things happen as they say.

Tiens, si on y retournait demain matin ?

The bird turned in a quasi butterfly by the water mirror, I love. Say, how about going again tomorrow morning? I'll help with the backpack ;-))) I love photo walks. Particularly when they include a lazy Sunday breakfast.

  7. it seems your images follow my life somewhat - when i moved from my place at the beach where i was so happy, i came into town to a place overlooking a beautiful little lake - the water edge no more than 20 feet from my patio - every year the migrating geese came through and stopped at the lake on their way wherever - winter there was my favorite time of the year, especially when the water froze and it was a beautiful bed of crystal white ice - in any event, these shots so remind me of the lake and the geese coming by - beautiful colors - i particularly like the colors of the bottom one with the orange flowing into the greens - thanks for sharing!

  9. I find I seldom need more than one body and a prime, but once or twice I have regreted not having a wide or telephoto lens, so I know how you feel.

However, sometimes only having a single prime makes me think a little more and get my creative juices flowing rather than being the lazy photographer that I am. ;-)

    Nice photos by the way!

  11. Well, thank you all for your comments. Another example of "The photographer got lucky". And isn't that true very often? Without luck we would be nothing. The direct consequence is that we photographers are liars, liars all the time, rarely depicting reality as it usually is. Certainly not in nature or wildlife. This fleeting moment exists... only for a fleetingly short second often!

Will excuse me if I don't answer each of you personally? Time's so short. Nancy, Suzanne, Phil, merenature, Aleksandra, Hélène, Jenean, Sandra, Lionel, The Photophile... all of you regular commenters here, I owe you a lot.

Aleksandra, I hope you get well very very very soon. dear friend.

Hélène, you know, we went back to this exact spot and there was nothing to do, pure unadulterated dullness!

Jenean, you depict such a beautiful image that my mind is full of it. If I were a painter...

    •••••••••••••

@The Photophile: You're rigjt, strolling around with only one prime and one body very often makes you work much more creatively. But then photographing birds, or landscapes with spectacular skies, may not be feasible. That's why so many people use zooms, even if they yield less precise images whatever say the gurus!

  13. If photographers are liars, you lie well, no doubt! You took only the beautiful part of the landscape, impregnated with wonderful colors, amplified by water reflections, purest sun, clearest air, playful birds. In other words, THE MOMENT. It is gone now, as it was never real. And you claim it still exists? That`s the lie! A beautiful and splendid and wonderful lie. I must say I want to be lied again such ways...

A prime will always put the photographer`s mind at work. A zoom will laze it.

  14. Oh yes it's gone never to come back, what a shame! You know very well. I'm thinking about some of your photographs, one was called I think sun's paintings or thereabouts, you wait for the sun and clouds, in fact you hope, you've got a few minutes...

    •••••••••••••
