Mais qu'est-ce que c'est que ÇA !

Non, ce n'est pas une attrape. J'ai photographié cette chose il y a quelques années sans jamais pouvoir l'identifier. J'ai donc entrepris un tout nouveau post-traitement, les outils de 2017(eh oui, on n'en est là) étant beaucoup plus performants qu'il y a seulement trois ou quatre ans pour tout ce qui touche le bruit, la définition, l'affinage, les contrastes et les couleurs.

Alors oui, j'ai besoin d'aide pour identifier ce qui est possiblement un papillon de nuit étrange (quelques-uns sortent en plein jour). Les yeux sur le côté de la tête font vraiment papillon. La trompe surtout, qu'il n'est pas toujours facile de photographier, apparaît clairement sur deux photos, une caractéristique fondamentale des papillons et des papillons de nuit.

Mais les ailes sont pour le moins étranges, de même que la crête sur le dessus de la tête. Il ne devrait pas être si difficile à identifier, mais je n'y arrive pas du tout.

J'ai vu cette insecte une seule fois, et dans ma région.

What In The World Is THIS!

No, this is not a joke. I photographed this thing some years ago and never succeeded in identifying it. Nobody could. So I've decided to redo the post-processing using most modern techniques available in 2017 (yes, we're almost there) which are way better than three or four years ago as far as noise, definition, sharpening, contrasts and colours are concerned.

I admit it: I need help in order to identify what could possibly a bizarre butterfly or moth. The eyes ont the side of the head belong to the butterfly and moth family. Most of all, its proboscis (tongue), visible on two of the photos, belongs to the butterfly and moth family.

The wings though are really strange as is the crest on the head. This one should be relatively easy to identify given its characteristics, but there you are, I just cannot.

I have seen this insect only once, in my region.

J'ai acheté récemment, en provenance des Bodegas Faustino, les millésimes 2004 et… 1994 du Rioja Grand Reserva Faustino I.

La SAQ tient aussi le millésime 1991, disponible dans une succursale près de chez moi. Je crois bien que je vais aller le chercher cette semaine, histoire de préparer une dégustation verticale de ce rioja tout à fait correct.

Bodegas Faustino: Old Vintages

From Bodegas Faustino, I recently bought the 2004 and 1994 vintages of the rioja called Faustian I Grand Reserva Rioja.

The SAQ also sells the 1991 vintage of this wine, available at an outlet near home. I think I will buy it this week in order to organise a vertical tasting of this more than decent Spanish wine.

Last Thursday morning, the weather forecast told us that there would be a 12 in snow fall in the Charlevoix region. Hélène and I immediately made a reservation in a B&B, hopped in the car and went there in order to have some fun. Of course, winter is only beginning, it will get funnier all right.

Savennières, une AOC méconnue

L'AOC Savennières est l'une des plus petites de France avec ses 150 hectares. C'est aussi l'une des moins connues. Ses vins blancs, issus de chenin blanc, sont pourtant parmi lees meilleurs de la Loire. Nous avons ouvert hier une bouteille de savennières Domaine Ogereau Clos du Grand Beaupréau 2012, sec et minéral, un pur délice.

Le millésime 2012 ne se trouve plus à la SAQ ni ailleurs non plus. Le 2013, tout aussi bon, vient toutefois de faire soin apparition à la SAQ… À 32 dollars, il est légèrement plus cher que le 2012, mais il vaut son prix.

Disponible uniquement en ligne pour le moment (sauf dans deux régions éloignées), il devrait apparaître sur les tablettes un peu partout d'ici une semaine.

Potentiel de garde : de dix à 15 ans.

Note : 16/20 (Revue du vin de France). 16,5-17/20 (moi). Inconnu des experts américains.

Savennières, An Often Overlooked AOC

The Savennières AOC (French Appellation d'Origine Contrôlée) covers only 150 hectares and is one of the smallest in France. Its white wines, made of the chenin blanc grape, are not very well known even if they are amongst the very best in the Loire Valley. Yesterday night, we opened a bottle of Domaine Ogereau Clos du Grand Beaupréau 2012, one of the finest savennières one can find. Very dry and mineral, a real treat.

The 2012 vintage is not available anymore, neither at the SAQ stores nor elsewhere as far as I know. However, the 2013 vintage just came in at the SAQ online… It's slightly more expensive at 32 CAD but worth every penny of it.

For the time being, it can only be ordered online at the SAQ (except in two remote areas). It should be on the shelves of most SAQ stores some time next week, though.

Aging Potential: ten to fifteen years.

Rating: 16/20 (Revue du vin de France). 16,5-17/20 (me). Unknown from American Wine Experts. (For my American readers: a 16 rating from La Revue du vin de France equals around 91 on the Parker scale.)

Les Londoniens sont vraiment très aventureux en ce qui touche le style résolument moderne de leurs nouveaux édifices. Contrairement à Paris, à peu près tout les coups sont permis.

Ils sont aussi très rapides pour tout ce qui touche la construction en hauteur. Cet édifice est vraiment tout nouveau : il n'était pas là hier. :-)

Dans ce cas précis, je vous autorise à ne pas me croire du tout.

The Londoners are very audacious as far as new skyscrapers are concerned. They will often accept designs that would be totally unacceptable in a city like Paris for example.

And they sometimes succeed in building those modern structures in record time. This twin building is brand new: it was not there yesterday in fact. :-)

Quand nous avons visité Édimbourg, j'ai retenu les services du photographe professionnel Ewan Barry du studio « tête à tête foto », qui offre ses services pour guider les touristes et photographes dans la ville d'Edimbourg sous Foto Tours Edinburgh.

La créativité de Barry est sans limites et nous avons eu un plaisir fou à visiter la ville à pied pendant plus de quatre heures tous les deux. Dans les photos précédentes, j'ai parfois adopté sans honte certaines de ses idées.

Le thème des lampadaires vient de lui, et je l'ai tout simplement poussé un peu plus loin en utilisant ma vision personnelle des choses.

When we visited Edinburgh, I hired the services of Ewan Barry, a professional photographer from the studio called "tête à tête foto". Both Ewan and Audrey (who also speaks French), offer their professional services to visitors under the website "Foto Tours Edinburgh".

Barry is very creative and offers a new look on Edinburgh. We both had great fun going through Edinburgh streets on foot and using unexpected angles. In the previous photos, I sometimes shamelessly adopted some of his ideas.

The streetlamp theme was Barry's original idea. I simply developed it a bit further using my own vision of things.

If you ever visit Edinburgh and want a head start on what to look for in the city, ask for him.
