Je te demande humblement de distinguer entre :
- métier et création, même art ;
- pour la musiqe, entre compositeurs et interprètes ;
- entre art et beauté ;

RogerGRoger Gauthierhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01690736289188945063noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4731100500338248454.post-82520345500540132612009-03-30T20:44:00.000-04:002009-03-30T20:44:00.000-04:00For Hélène: What In The World Is ArtBecause basica...For Hélène: What In The World Is Art
Because basically, this is your question. I will very humbly ask you to distinguish between:
- good craftsmanship and creation, or even art;
- for music, composers and interpreters
- art and beauty;
- art and beauty;
- et cetera...

No easy answer to this. You talk about la Sonate à la lune. Who's the greater artist: the interpreter, or Beethoven? You know the answer.

Music, painting, sculpting, photography, and of course the myriad of new forms of art, there is always the problem of creation, beauty, and of course imagination.

I suggest that you read a Wikipedia article that gives some - confusing - light on this: About aesthetics .

IMHO, beauty is not essential to art. Certainly not in modern art. See?

So the night version of the Château is cute. Not beautiful, cute, nothing more. There are too many small imperfections for that!

Now is the main point:This new image is not about the Château, it's about the City! What a difference... Art here is in the integration of a beautiful building in its surroundings, its true surroundings. What do you see here? This is Québec City, Québec la magnifique. Québec is not a Château, as much as many would like us to believe. It's a maze of beautiful pedestrian streets, mysterious, WITH a Château.

This is what you find here. And this is why it is vastly superior to the first one.

Don't be fooled by a nice night scene! Any reasonable photographer can do it, look the Internet by yourself. Granted, night scenes look impressive. Is it art? I think not. Is it beautiful? Perhaps.

I will be back with my position on art in several weeks. Including music.

(French version of this later tonight)

RogerGRoger Gauthierhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01690736289188945063noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4731100500338248454.post-57580864107461792362009-03-30T20:00:00.000-04:002009-03-30T20:00:00.000-04:00Comment About CommentingI love receiving feedback ...Comment About Commenting

I love receiving feedback by private email.

--

Is there progress, you ask ? You seem to think there is, in that the angle and perspectives are fresher. Ooooo-kay.

I’ve been pondering this since you first put the initial picture on your blog, noting that the angle was not novel.

I have a question for you and your readers on this blog. It’s about the importance of originality in a work of art. Can’t a piece be beautiful if it’s not very novel?

Say I play the Moonlight Sonata on the piano, and my performance is flawless. Is this performance 'not as good' just because, at the same time in the universe, hundreds of other pianists may also be performing the same piece, and just as flawlessly ? Maybe my choice is not inspired but does that have an impact on the achievement of my performance?

No cop out, please. Music is not the same? So why?

So your initial picture showed the Château from a less than novel angle and, according to you (and lots and lots of others, I know), this makes the picture less interesting. Because photography is a visual art? Can’t there be beauty in the familiar ?

Just asking.

(By now, everybody will have guessed that I for one liked the initial Château.)Hélènehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14346365807930177957noreply@blogger.com
